The Farm-losophy

This all started with a search for the best tasting food. We are constantly learning & experimenting.

We specialize in unique and rare heritage breeds, and our focus is on organic techniques and regenerative farming.

Heritage Breeds

These are breeds that existed before commercial agriculture. Many of them are now rare or endangered, with global efforts to save certain breeds. Commercial agriculture focuses on creating food as cheaply as possible, to inflate profit margins. This means they focus on larger animals that grow fast. Our focus is on finding the best tasting animals. Magalitsa Pigs are my favorite example of this. Commercial pigs are fully grown and ready for slaughter as early as 4 months where as Magalitsa pigs take 18 months. When you are making that pot roast for Sunday dinner,  you want to cook that slow and low. I think of raising animals in the same way; maybe animals that naturally take longer to mature are developing that flavor nice & slow.  Check out the breeds on the farm here.

Organic Techniques

We use only natural materials in our feed, soil & processing. There are a lot of different factors that come together to create the flavor of our food. One of the most impactful things we can control is what we feed our animals. Feeding animals different foods can and does effect the taste of their meat. Feeding quality food makes the animals healthier & tastier.

Regenerative Practices

Regenerative farming practices focus on caring for & repairing the land & specifically the soil. For us this means being respectful and caring for the land & the wildlife as well. Finding ways to grow our farm along side wildlife without harming them.
